| It was bound to happen sometime. In our 2-and-a-half years of being parents, we had yet to make a trip to the emergency room. Last night, Chloe helped us experience that parental first. She got sick on Friday afternoon - Keri called me on my way home from work and told me about how many times she had cleaned up puke in an hour, and I knew we were in for a long weekend. Anyway, she got really dehydrated on Saturday and late in the afternoon her temp shot up to almost 102 and she was pretty lethargic. Off we went to the MoBap ER, which now has a pediatric wing staffed by Children's Hospital people. After our hour-long wait (they were slammed), we got into a room, the Doc ordered an IV, and then brought her a popsicle. He said they're great because they melt so slowly, the water hits the stomach and gets absorbed right away, before the kid can puke. By the time they were ready to take her IV out, she was standing in Keri's lap bouncing up and down. She's come down a bit from that high, but she's still looking LOTS better than she did yesterday. God is good - and so are popsicles. OH! Also, yesterday the Jehova's Witnesses came by to share some of their literature. I started quizzing the kid (he was maybe 16) on what he believed and he got really nervous all of a sudden. He's coming back next Saturday at 11, so if anyone wants to help share the true Gospel with him (and the reinforcements I'm sure he's bringing) let me know. | | |
| OK, here goes. I'm not going to tag anybody, but here's 6 things you may not know about me: - I can stand at the top of a 30-foot rock wall and not freak out, but get me up on a 6-foot stepladder and I'm done for.
- I build and fly high-power model rockets. I have one that is taller than I am. Yes, it's legal.
- I really want to be let loose to do some wicked cool lighting in Parkway's Sanctuary.
- I can sleep through just about anything (thunderstorm, earthquake, children screaming, etc.) Note: Being able to sleep through my children screaming does not make me a bad dad. It just makes me a tired one.
- I have a bad track record for injuring my feet while on vacation.
- I never thought I was claustrophobic until I had to have an MRI.

| We have houseguests for at least the evening - 5 of them to be exact (well, 6 really, if you count my father-in-law's cold). They don't have power, and the temperature in their house was in the mid-50s by 6:00. So, Keri's Mom, Dad, Sister, and their two cats have temporarily moved in. At least I think it's temporary...they did practically pull up the house with a U-Haul. I had a made a big pot of soup before they even asked if they could come over, so that worked out well. I'll post a follow-up sometime... | | |
| Today's the big day - I go in for my sinus surgery. It's supposed to happen about 1:00 (Central time), so please keep me in your prayers around then. I'll try and post again when I get home if I'm up to it. <edit> Well, I can think of some worse ways to spend an afternoon, but not many. I'm home now, although I'm rather sore and the pain pills they gave me aren't doing as much as I'd hoped. | | |
